This 30 min documentary follows the journey of Kumar Darnal, a young Nepali father. In order to get his family out of debilitating debt, Kumar gambles on the promise of a migrant labor job in Malaysia. While he is away, a devastating earthquake makes his success all the more urgent.
Since 2008, Seattle filmmakers Scott Squire and Amy Benson have been documenting the lives of one Nepali family, The Darnals. The first film in the series, Drawing the Tiger premiered in 2015 winning the Best Film Award from the Northwest Film Forum as well as the UNICEF award from Film South Asia. The Eldest Son is the second installment.
If you missed our screening of Drawing the Tiger in 2016, we encourage you to watch it in the comfort of your own home prior to our September 7, 2018 screening of Eldest Son. Here is a link to Drawing the Tiger: https://vimeo.com/124880964; Password: KumarDarnal
